Head of Global Logistics Procurement

Job description

Process Role Description:

  • Accountable to manage Category Budget in close collaboration with countries/ entities as well as corporate functions such as Finance, Operations and Group Procurement
  • Lead all procurement activities in own area of responsibility for the applicable categories, as well as be responsible for the management of assigned suppliers – on global level as well as in supporting function to countries/ entities
  • Responsible for implementing and managing purchasing activities within assigned categories, using standardized procurement processes and tools (i.e. P2P).
  • Oversee global as well as local tenders and manage supplier contracts, ensuring cost savings and compliance with procurement policies.
  • Monitor contract timelines, assist in renegotiations, and ensure the implementation of centrally determined policies and framework agreements within assigned categories
  • Manage preparation on country to categorize specific NPEX initiatives in close collaboration with corporate / country controlling, accounting and treasury for re-occurring spend and with technical operations on investment related budgets
  • Ensure maintenance of procurement documents, including Requests for Information, Quotes, and Proposals, through delivery and project completion in close collaboration with Process Excellence Team (in particular for eTender and Intelligence preparation) for creating competitive supplier roadmaps as well as process harmonizations across countries.
  • Responsible for achieving the agreed global and regional targets for P&L Savings, Cost Avoidance and Payment Terms
  • Manages costs based on budget but not limited to Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), Life-Cycle Cost evaluation, value creation.
  • Accountable for related cash and non-cash investment measures, supplier onboarding and monitor service levels to ensure compliance and uninterrupted availability for timely execution with the countries
  • Responsible for the establishment and management of effective relationships with suppliers (SRM)
  • Close collaboration with operational departments of the group, such as Supply Chain, Warehouse Mgmt and Food Service Delivery as well as METRO Logistics
  • Close collaboration with Technical Operations and Finance regarding upcoming needs (forecasts, capex replacements) as well as precise timing on resource deployments during the planning phase
  • Responsible for observing market trends (innovation, overall state of supplier market and vendors)
  • Effectively build and manage relationships with suppliers, using Total Cost of Ownership approach.
  • Set rules of engagement with corporate/country organizations (incl. subsequent control of compliance) with respect to scope of managed categories.
  • Support and assist the VP Global Indirect Procurement in executive negotiations.
  • Be a responsive service minded business partner to EVP’s, CFO’s and subject matter experts on country level and engage with global category leads for framework agreement deployments

Purpose of Job:

With specialized expertise in Logistics, Supply Chain, and FMCG/Wholesale Operations, the position holder will assume a leadership role as Head of Global Logistics Procurement. This role is responsible for establishing and developing the Global Logistics Procurement Department, serving as a strategic business partner across all countries in the areas of Transportation, Warehousing, and Sea Freight.

As the Head of Global Logistics Procurement, you will oversee the procurement of products and services within designated categories. You will lead all procurement-related activities and ensure the implementation of procurement strategies and policies in alignment with the company’s overall objectives.

Reporting to the VP Global Indirect Procurement you will collaborate closely with business stakeholders to build consensus and drive change. A key part of your role will be to provide expert advice and deliver successful implementation of procurement initiatives alongside functional and regional leadership teams.


Qualifications

Your qualifications and competencies

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering, Business, Economics, Procurement, Supply Chain or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of experience within procurement, supply chain, operations, logistics and transformation offices or consulting background.
  • English skills at business level (written and spoken) is a must, any additional language is an advantage (Spanish, French, Italian, Slavic Languages, Turkish).
  • Readiness to travel for business purposes
  • Excellent negotiating skills and understanding of contractual key terms.
  • Excellent understanding of tender process and various tendering methods
  • Sector knowledge with good understanding of country specifications
  • A proven track record in delivering cost savings and driving transformational projects.
  • Strong project management experience and analytical skills.
  • Strong leadership skills to effectively manage category processes and cross functional teams in a matrix organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with key stakeholders in multiple global locations and at various levels.
  • Down-to-earth and positive work attitude, hands-on mentality, team worker.
  • Excellent social & communication skills – able to clearly articulate position in a complex organization.
  • Open minded, honest and transparent way of communication.
  • Living a flat-hierarchy approach and being a hands on individual, driving the individual development of other team members.  
  • Willingness to travel when required
